Relief Society Book Exchange

Last night we had a book exchange with the ladies at church after being inspired by the lovely ladies of Reid Girls Handmade. I loved every creative detail of theirs from the invites to the book quotes. It was a great success and I now have a nice long list of books I must read!

The Goose Girl - Shannon Hale
The Great House of God - Max Lucado
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - J. K. Rowling
The Killer Angels - Michael Shaara
My Name is Mary Sutter - Robin Oliveira

Odds Are You're Going to Be Exalted - Alonzo Gaskill
The Pioneer Woman Cooks - Ree Drummond
Rainwater - Sandra Brown
Saying it Like it Is - Sheri Dew

The Great Divorce - C.S. Lewis
Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society - Mary Anne Shaffer
The Help - Kathryn Stockett
The Hiding Place - Corrie Ten Boom

what a fun idea! I'm going to remember that and put it on the enrichment list for next year.

cute idea! do the ladies keep the books or are they returned after they are finished reading them? Is there a follow up activity to it? like a book discussion or something?

Tannia--we kept the books and didn't have any follow up activity--although that would be fun!! This was our first year doing a book exchange but it will not be our last! We wrapped the books (obviously, as you can see from the picture) and exchanged them white elephant gift style. As each book was opened, the person who brought the book told us what they loved about the book.

White elephant rules:
To determine the gift-choice play order, participants draw numbers from a hat. Starting with one and up to the total number of participants, the players take turn in the corresponding succession.

Once an order has been established, each person takes his or her turn choosing a gift. The first person picks a gift, opens it, and shows it to the rest of the company. Then in turn, the participants choose to either unwrap a new gift or to "steal" a previously unwrapped gift. If a gift is "stolen", the person who had their gift taken from them gets to unwrap any unopened gift; and then, the turn passes. When all the gifts have been opened, the game is over. (from wikipedia)
