Head injury

Back in August, David was bending down looking at his adorable, baby sister when he backed up and fell over the back rung of a ladder right onto our very unforgiving tile floor. He smacked his head HARD. He cried inconsolably for about 15 minutes, sat with daddy on the couch and then fell asleep. NOT good! I called my mom, confirmed what every mom should know (no falling asleep after hitting your head!) then got on the phone with Children’s hospital. It was a Sunday, which meant I had to wait for a call back (agonizing) and as soon as I told the nurse David’s symptoms (including throwing up 4 times) she said to get him down to Children’s as soon as possible. I drove while Alan sat in the back seat trying to keep David awake. It was a very long half hour! David was totally out of it and mumbling responses to our question. Thankfully we were seen right away and after the doctor looked him over, she decided on a CAT scan. Alan was in the room with him while I looked in through a window. I cried. It’s hard to see your child going through something like that, especially when it is due to something that could have so easily been prevented. My heart goes out to parents who are constantly dealing with medical conditions their child is suffering from.

David was diagnosed with a concussion and fractured skull, thankfully nothing permanent. He spent about 4 hours at Children’s and by the afternoon, he was himself again:  Chinese David We were told it would take about 6 months before he was completely healed so any time he trips, Alan and I hold our breath a little.

Lesson learned: do not leave a ladder up in your house when it’s not being used. TERRIBLE/DUMB idea.

SO glad he's ok! That is terrifying. Lesson learned, indeed. It's rough that we all have to learn the hard way!
