Oh my goodness, why-oh-why have I been cursed with lizards this last month? And not just your normal every day lizard. I know some of you out there may be sick of my lizards stories, but seriously, this is good one. And I hope it's my last. 'Cuz really? Ewwww!
So a week or two ago I was opening the curtains in our living room when I heard something fall about a foot from where I was standing. I looked down and it was a GINORMOUS lizard! And it fell right past my face. Ick! I instantly jumped!, moved away, closed all the doors and barricaded the room until Alan got home later that day. He searched for a half hour to no avail. No sign of the thing. I knew it couldn't have gotten far, but decided I couldn't live in fear and went ahead and still went into that room, still opened curtains, still watched tv, but all the while dreading the sight of that lizard. I get goose bumps just thinking about it or talking about it.
Fast forward to yesterday. It was about 5:00 pm and I headed upstairs to where Alan was studying to ask him if he had any ideas for dinner. I froze midway up when I saw that same GINORMOUS lizard staring at me from the hallway!!! I quietly told Alan, "Lizard! Lizard! Look in the hallway--slowly!!!" Thankfully the sucker stayed frozen and Alan and I were able to grab a box and lid and ALMOST got the thing trapped quickly. However, that thing was FAST and tricky and he ran and hid under the bookcase in the hall. The bookcase with the HOLLOW bottom. We spent the next half hour emptying the bookcase, closing doors and laying towels down to prevent it escaping into bedrooms, then planning our attack. We had 3 or 4 boxes, lids, long poles, flashlight and lots of nervous energy. After moving stuff and and scooting things around, Alan tipped the bookcase over and there the lizard was. It quickly ran to the other side where it was trapped inside the bookcase and it HISSED at Alan. That's right, I said "HISSED!!!!!" Eventually we got it into the box with a lid on top and were able to get it outside! Oh mercy me it was no fun at all!! We brought the boys with us and they had no fear whatsoever. They were leaning down close to look at it and could almost care less as to what it was. Me on the other hand, I was a constant goose bump mobile.
For your viewing pleasure...the 12 inch Alligator Lizard that has been living in my house for the past 2 weeks!! (And NO, this is not the same one that was in my bedroom. I'm cursed I tell you!)

That thing was huge!! Are you sure it wasn't a baby alligator or something?!?
ROFL!!! This post cracked me up! I love it..."fast and tricky lizard" LOL!!! Oh girl, you kill me. Those things are brutal but it'd be a fun pet for the boys. We had an alligator lizard as a pet for a while. It actually was quite sweet but then again I used to pick up lizards when I was a kid so they don't reallly freak me out.
I'm glad you caught yours though - now you can sleep better. :P
Oh my goodness! As I am reading this, I am envisioning the Katie that I know from Philmont, jumping around and over excited about a little lizard that can't be more than a few inches...as in 2 inches long. "Pick the darn thing up Katie," I keep saying in my head. BUT OH NO! Then I see the ugly thing!!!!! Yes that is too big to be running around your house. I would have done the same thing and I like lizards....that one is not cute!!!!!
ok....I was serious when I said I wanted to come get one from you to catch the cricket in my garage....that is....if they eat crickets:)
Your boys are getting so big. What little heartbreakers you are going to have on your hands!
Hey, doesn't that thing do insurance commercials?
