Sorry eyes...

Have you heard the song "Your Sorry Eyes" by Beck? It was a favorite of mine a few years back. These days, the title of the song better describes MY sorry (as in AWFUL) eyes. I can't remember exactly what my current prescription is, but I know that I'm considered legally blind when I'm not wearing my contacts or glasses. Any time I hear of a friend getting Lasik or PRK I have minor jealously issues. But, since my excitement for them far outweighs my jealous tendencies, I have just minor issues:)

Anyway, my point is this: Almost exactly 20 1/2 years ago I had my very first eye exam with Dr. Tannenbaum (and YES, every time I went to see him I always sang in my head "Oh Tannenbaum, Oh Tannenbaum...Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree..."). How do I know this you may ask? (As though you care.) Well, my family has lived in the same house for the last 25 years and for the last 20 1/2 years, my very first prescription has been hanging on the inside of one of our kitchen cupboards. Every time I see it, I think back to that poor little (though very cute) 8 year old girl who was stuck wearing HUGE plastic frames and it actually makes me smile:) I promise that I will NEVER make one of my children wear such awful frames, even if it was what everyone else was wearing--as my mother always points out.

Just for fun, here is the prescription and also my school picture from 4th grade. Some of you have already seen it, but I think it's such a great picture that it needed to get posted again:)

How can you NOT love the jean dress, red knotted bandanna, red buttons, red clip on earrings, SHOULDER PADS (on a 4th grader!), beyond awesome bangs and my sweet pink tinted coke bottle glasses? Admit it. I look AWESOME!

You DO look AWESOME! I wore glasses VERY similar to yours at that time too. You were NOT alone! I didn't have such a stylish denim dress though--homemade POLYESTER pants for me!

I think I had those same glasses. Isn't it just awful?! I hope my kids don't have to go through that. Lasik is awesome by the way!

I got glasses when I was 7. I was legally blind at 17. I was 20/650 in both eyes. I had lasik about 10 years ago. Best thing ever!
I love the pic!

You are so eighties terrific! Man I would have been jealous of those shoulder pads back in the day...and the bangs.

Man you're prolific! I wanted to comment on your stroller search post, had to get off the computer for a catastrophe, got busy, and now you've had like 20 posts since then... GLAD you got the BOB. We've had our double Bob for three years now and LOVE it. I'm totally gone over your clip on earrings though...great picture.

I've gone private. Send me your email so I can invite you!

I'm right there with you on the eye thing! At least you can get lasik someday...it's not an option for me! (blasted eyes) But hey, thank goodness we live in a time where we can have special contacts and glasses! Love your picture...

Yikes! You know...you remind me of your dad in that picture. Not trying to say anything, but you really do! The bandana is a pretty sweet touch to the outfit!
