My mom and dad took off for Maui yesterday morning (I am so jealous!) so I decided to do a little spring cleaning for my mama to surprise her when she gets home. (fyi, we live with my parents since we currently have no home of our own and no income besides the $25 we earn in interest each month from our checking account... Alan is in school full time to get his masters and I am at home taking care of my wee little ones. Ond oh ya, we live in Southern California and it's ridiculously expensive here.) Anyway, my parents pantry needed a little TLC and I decided that it was time I did something about it. When I was younger, my friends were always amazed at how much food we had in there. It really is quite impressive. Especially since there is still the same amount of food in there as when there were 7 kids plus my parents living here. I threw something away that's "best by" date was 1998. Whoa! 10 years ago! I started in the early evening with my two little helpers assisting me and ended around 9:30 pm. I love opening the door to the pantry now. It's so refreshing! (diversion: okay, I'm way too into Jane Austen and Pride and Prejudice right now, but just in case you are too, remember in the BBC version when Caroline asks Elizabeth to take a turnabout the room at Netherfield? And Caroline says "It's SO refreshing!" Well, that's what I thought of when I wrote that line.) On with the story...I filled up 2 garbage bags of trash and probably 3 bags worth of recycling stuff. It looks great now! And the extra good thing is that we now know what we need more of and we definitely do not need more of. We're good on jello and pudding, but need more powdered sugar:)

Do you hire out?! My sister calls my pantry the AM-PM.
Go You! I totally love projects like that (especially when it's a surprise for someone). Your mom will be so excited!
That's freaking hilarious. We just moved and were throwing out things that were 3 years old, but 10! Wow! It looks so much better, and now I know where to go if I need some Saltines or ice cream cones.
I'm still laughing so hard...98' was a good year. Maui and now this? Your mom did something right.
DANG! That IS quite the undertaking Katie. Stephen and I are both very impressed. Your mom will so love that and she so deserves that! Glad 1998 is gone too!!
That is quite the task! She will be so grateful - maybe even shed a tear or two? Naa...a big hug for sure though! Jackson thought Owie was in the pantry and then said, OH! Dabid n Ephen! so cute
IMPRESSIVE! go Katie!
That totally sounds like something I would do. I hear ya on the SoCal thing. I wish I had a large pantry to organize. Maybe someday.
Look at all those labels turned out!
It's like "Sleeping with the Enemy." I'm sure you have never seen that movie.
Wow Katie. So brave.
Yes very impressive:)
